It’s actually kinda embarassing at this point

So yeah, we’re sick again. Again. I know.

People ask how we’re doing and I can’t help but lie. ‘Oh we’re fine…’ I say weakly. Seriously, it’s absurd. I think at least one member of my family has been sick, since, oh, June???

Right now it’s Pneumonia. Which I can now tell you, is no picnic. Especially when you are supposed to use a nebulizer for breathing treatments, but an ice storm has taken away your power, so you have to traipse out to the cold car and do breathing treatments there every 4 hours.

I’m not complaining, truly I’m not. We are very fortunate and I know this. I thank God every day for all the blessings in my life, sickness and all. I just felt I owe you an explanation for why I keep coming and going without warning. If I disappear it’s safe to assume that I’m sick again, and too embarassed to tell you.

One of a Kind

Annie told me tonight that there’s no one like me. She also said that I am the person she loves most on this earth. (Dis on Dadda huh? Sorry sucker!) It was incredibly sweet of her and would have made a great memory if not for the circumstances. You see, these words were uttered in between sobs and screams while at the urgent treatment center.

Around the time the doctor’s office closed (of course), she began to complain of an ear ache. My fabulous pediatrician will see you anytime of the day or night and says never to go to the ER; call him first. As grateful as I am for this service, it seems one of my girls is always sick these days and I’m afraid he’ll start to think of me as the Mom who cried wolf. I’m trying to use this kind offer sparingly so it will still stand later! I debated about waiting till morning but she got worse fast and I wound up taking her to the immediate care place before Chris even got home from work.

She was in a lot of pain, and she is not a complainer so I know it was bad. God bless her kind little heart though – she was still polite to everyone she encountered. When the nurse looked in her ear she apologized for hurting Annie, who quickly told her (while crying), “That’s ok, sometimes it happens.” She also told me that she hoped I never ever got an ear infection because it hurts so bad. And she thanked them for their treatment. And when the sympathetic pharmacist offered her a lolly she remembered to say “No thank you” even through her tears.

The diagnosis? Double ear infection, strep throat, pneumonia, and a second evaluation scheduled for tomorrow because they believe she has developed asthma. Oh, and did I mention that I’ve been sending her to VBS all week? She had a little cough but I thought it was just a cold. Who’s gonna win the mother of the year award? Surely not me. :( Not to mention all the moms to whom I owe an apology, since I’ve exposed their children as well.

On the bright side, though, I am clearly the mother of an amazing little girl. They broke the mold when they made this one.
